In Burgundy it is all about location. Domaine Rene Cacheux may be very small but they certainly have some superbly located vineyards.

They are one of a handful of owners of Chambolle-Musigny Les Argillieres which lies right alongside the Grand Cru Le Musigny. The wines of Musigny are often spoken about as an “iron fist in a velvet glove”. Not surprisingly Les Argilieres shares similar characteristics. But at a fraction of the price.

The domaine owns a minute 0.13 hectares with a vine age around 50 years. These factors combine to make for an exceptional wine, albeit in tiny quantities.

Enchanting nose of Kirsch - cherries and flowers with a little pomegranate. Textured, with fruit flavours dancing across the palate. Lots of energy and a sappy intensity from the old vines. There’s also a lovely spice note. This is a aromatic wine with much class typical of Chambolle-Musigny from the southern end. If you like the wafting intensity of Musigny you really should try this.

Violet and cranberry on the palate. Firm, tight tannins that give plenty of chew. Powerfully concentrated finish with some piquant spice. (RH) (Drink between 2019-2029)
