Bill Nanson "The Burgundy Report"

From the bottom of the Volnay commune - Lamboits, still on the ‘right side’ of the road.A narrow nose, but also one that’s more floral. Fresh, lots of mouth-filling volume, growing a width a fine flavour - this is a delicious baby Volnay. All that I could wish for in a Bourgogne here - bravo!

Vinous Media - Neal MArtin

The 2019 Bourgogne Côte d’Or comes from four parcels all in the Volnay appellation. This has a well defined and very pure bouquet with small red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit, light rose petal aromas filtering through. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite candied in quality with orange zest and strawberry pastilles. Just a delicous, easy-drinking wine that will be difficult to resist in its youth.

The colour is deep ruby red and looks fantastic in the glass. Nose isn’t as pronounced as the 2018 but it’s more classic in style. Deep strawberry, red gooseberry, torn rose pedals and crushed wet stones. Medium body, elegant red and black fruits working well together. End palate is spiced with dashes of star anise, five spice, black pepper and cinnamon, but all are subtle in flavour. If only all Bourgogne could be like this, it shows its commune well highlighting Bouley is a Volnay producer and a very good one. Grab a case before it all goes as it speaks value.
