From the Citernes lieu-dit, a vineyard which Pierrick now grasses between the rows because otherwise the ground gets soggy after rain. Mid purple, with a slightly phenolic nose. Rounded finish, some plums in the fruit, a little bit sombre.

The Aloxe-Corton is on the more substantial side of 2020 and, for me, the extraction could have been dialed back a notch. It’s a good wine, but other wines from the Pierrick Bouley line-up give me greater pleasure.

The 2020 Aloxe-Corton Village possesses one of Bouley’s more refined and delicate aromatics this year, rose petal and incense unfurling gracefully in the glass intertwined with mainly red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with good grip, a little sturdier and "serious" than many other Aloxe-Corton that I encountered, even at Premier Cru level. Saline, dark berry fruit towards the finish with good length. This will deserve 3-5 years in a cool cellar. (Drink between 2025-2038)
