Darren Harris: Bright red. Spiced plum, dark cherry, sweet earth, iron. Fresh in the mouth with zingy cassis-like acidity. Refined but structured and intense, the old vines and whole berries add serious depth. This is a classic, high quality Gevrey-Chambertin with power and balance. Give it ten years to show its best.

From ancient vines, replanted just after the war, this year made with 50% whole bunch but usually 100%. Mid crimson in colour. Darker fruit, with ultra-ripe cherry, while also bringing out some chocolate notes. Nonetheless there is real power here while staying fresh, red berries and acidity behind and the stems give a little firm touch. It is important to pick Champonnet relatively early, thinks Philippe Chéron. Tasted: March 2021.

No whole bunches but as many whole berries as possible. 3-4 weeks on skins. Up to 25% new oak. Cask sample.
Mid cherry red with smudgy rim. Fragrant with both dark fruits and crushed stones, giving an attractive dusty quality. Lightly spiced. On the palate, firm, dry and very fine tannins. Sinewy but not short of fruit or freshness.
