Wine Spectator
Lime blossom, lemon candy, mineral and toasted spice aromas and flavors mark this lithe, vivid white. Remains pretty compact on the finish, with terrific energy, light tannins and a chalky feel.
Vinous: Stephen Tanzer
Precise aromas of lemon, white pepper and minerals, plus a suggestion of musky reduction. Dense, fleshy and very concentrated, with strong minerality currently hiding underlying citrus fruits. But this very fine-grained Charmes shows a sexy creamy quality and seductive sucrosité to go with its terrific finesse and energy. Finishes fine-grained, brisk and very long, with the mineral structure to support extended aging. Matrot owns four parcels in Charmes but 75% of this bottling came from vines just beneath Perrières as his vineyards on the mid- and lower slope were wiped out by the late-June hail. (Drink between 2020-2030).
