Maranges is at the far south of the Cote d’Or alongside Santenay. Until 1988 when the appellation was created the wines were all but unknown.
The ever increasing demand for Burgundy has seen interest sparked for the wines of Maranges which offer colour and structure at a very reasonable price. In fact it is said that negociants once used Maranges to pep up weaker wines from elsewhere in Burgundy.
Domaine Justin Girardin produce an Vieilles Vignes Maranges red from vines over 50 years of age.
At the price of many a standard Bourgogne this wine will provide much pleasure without breaking the bank.
