Being located on the "wrong side" of the D974 would suggest "La Justice" should be of little interest. However, a fault line of limestone runs directly through the vineyard. That, combined with sandy topsoil, allows for great drainage, which makes this one the best non-premier cru vineyards in Gevrey. Tasted blind, many people would (and do) mistake it for 1er cru Chambolle as it combines both depth and elegance unique to other vineyards in Gevrey.

Some vintages just seem to suit certain vineyards and 2018 and La Justice are a perfect match. Intense nose of black cherry, blackberry and blue berry with minerally earth notes and some wildness. Sappy and vibrant in the mouth with many layers. Excellent volume with rich caressing fruit underpinned by Gevrey tannins on the long finish. As usual this is as good as many a Premier Cru from the other side of town. (2020)

Deep red. Fresh, ripe nose of cherry and mixed small berries, fragrant with violets and crushed rock. Lively and mouthfilling with a fruit succulence and crisp acidity. Supple and delicious with a saline minerality and fine grained tannins adding to the wine’s length. Has the weight and intensity of a Premier Cru (as always). (22/10/2021)
