Buffet's Monopole is just half a hectare in size. More aromatic and layered than Le Village with strong notes of raspberry and minerals. The palate builds in the middle with juicy fruit followed by a reasonably firm finish.
24 Feb 2019: Tasted blind. Intense nose of dark fruits and minerals with a back note of fine herbs. The palate is long and complex with texture and freshness. A little more savoury than Taillepieds. A most interesting Volnay.

A sound deep red, with a touch of evolution at the rim. Good solid red fruit on the nose, quite late picked, seemingly, almost some prunes. Glycerol legs. This freshens up steadily in the glass, showing some weight behind, very peppery notes, and very good length.

The 2016 Volnay Clos de la Rougeotte 1er Cru offers plenty of crushed strawberry and red plummy fruit on the nose, although it does not deliver the same clarity as its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fresh and slightly citric. A nice touch of piquancy here lends vigour and tension with a neatly controlled finish. Thankfully the aromatics meliorate with aeration, resulting in a very commendable Volnay that just needs bottle age. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting in Burgundy. (Drink between 2022-2040),
