The Domaine du Clos Frantin Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Malconsorts is probably our biggest selling serious Burgundy. The location of the vineyard alongside La Tache makes for serious, age-worthy wines that are often equal or better than many Grand Crus.   The domaine is the largest owner of Malconsorts, with a 1.7766 ha plot located in the middle of the vineyard. Maison Albert Bichot has owned the plot of Aux Malconsorts since 1964, when they acquired the Grivelet estate including vineyards and the Clos Frantin chai and mansion in Vosne-Romanee.   Jasper Morris: Significantly rich deep purple. A wonderful richness of flavour sweeps across the palate. It is still held in check a bit by the wood. A solid, rich, firm wine at the finish, with impressive density. 94 Points

The Bichot holdings run to 1.75 hectares and cover both the upper and lower parts of the Premier Cru. This is a sturdy, almost austere expression of the site with serious tannins, dense, chewy black fruits and a touch of mint. Very well made, but needs considerable time in bottle. 2028-38.

Burghound

(from a whopping 1.75 ha parcel). A relatively deeply pitched nose offers plenty of both floral and spice elements along with notes of plum, dark cherry and a touch of Asian-style tea. As is usually the case there is excellent volume and a taut muscularity to the sappy broad-shouldered flavors that flash superb depth and persistence. Note well though that this classic example is definitely built-to-age and is going to need at least most of a decade to be approachable. Recommended. SWEET SPOT WINE 2031+

James Suckling Tasting Report

Beautiful crushed roses with an array of fresh raspberries and red cherries, as well as light mocha and oak spices in the background. The palate has excellent tannin maturity and depth. A bold, explosive finish. This is exceptional. This elegant vintage has delivered a wine with real clarity and detail. But still needs some time. Try from 2024.
