There is by contrast very good freshness and energy on the delicious and nicely detailed middle weight flavors that also culminate in a youthfully austere, serious and very firmly structured finale. 2039+

Deep and rich with a slew of forest-berry character and hints of caramel and bitter chocolate. Serious concentration, built on excellent tannic foundations. Although this has been built for serious aging, you could still open the bottle now and experience everything that makes this wine remarkable. Drink or hold.

The Clos Vougeot is a surprise this year. It’s relatively cool and perfumed, with red roses and peonies. It is delicate, and without the denseness found in some 2019 Vougeots. This has vivid freshness and good length. It is not a wine for early drinking, but it will definitely unfold beautifully after 10-15 years. This is a mixed year for the big clos, but this is one of the beautiful examples.
