Emilien Millot’s wines never cease to amaze me. How good they are! Bill Nanson described his Bourgogne 2018 “this is certainly a junior Meursault in style” and not without reason. The grapes for the Bourgogne are 100% Chardonnay from Meursault and the wine making displays a very deft hand. I commented on the Bourgogne 2018 about the palate weight being “not heavy, not light, but just right” and the 2019 is just the same. The wine begins with an aromatic nose of citrus brioche, grapefruit, white flowers and salted roasted nuts. Fresh, vibrant with lovely mouthfeel - it rolls off the palate. It finishes with Millot’s signature acid, with minerals and a salty tang. This is great raw material, super winemaking and all for a bargain price. Forget what is on the label and pretend you are drinking a wine a level or two above. You will not be disappointed.
